Hi!
I am Mr. Smith. John Smith. I am 65 years old. Yes, I am an old
man. Some people say I'm an old fashioned man. I agree. I like
traditions. I'm a very conservative man. I think young people
nowadays are very irresponsible. I think they have a lot to learn
from old people like me. My daughter, for example. I want her to
marry Jack. Jack has a brilliant career in business. But she doesn't
want him. She wants to be with a guy called Tony. I don't like this
Tony. He has a rock and roll band. What kind of future will my
daughter have with this guy?
One
of this day I heard a knock on my door. I was having dinner with my
daughter Julia and Jack. I left the table to answer the door. Guess
who was at the door? Yes, Tony. I could see that he was nervous. He
asked me the following question... “Can I have your daughter for
the rest of my life?”
My answer was, no! I told him he would never get my blessing, until
the day I died. I also said: “Tough luck my friend but the answer
is no!”
My daughter went outside to talk
to him. I could hear their talk. He told my daughter: “My god! Why your father's gotta be so rude? Doesn't he know we're
human too? Why he's gotta be so rude.
Tony is very bold. He told me...“I'm gonna marry her anyway. I am
going to marry this girl! No matter what you say. I am going to marry
this girl and we'll be a family. He continued his monologue saying:
“I hate to do this, but you leave me no choice. I can't live
without her”. “Love me or hate me we will be both standing at
that altar. Or we will run away, to another galaxy, you know! You
know she's in love with me. She will go anywhere I go”. Then he repeated his question all over again: “Can I have your
daughter for the rest of my life? Please say yes. Because I need to
know. Don't say I'll never get your blessing till the day you die.
Don't be so rude! Please don't be so rude”.
They are not going to have my blessing. But I know
that is not going to make any difference. As I can see they are going
to get married anyway.
